General informations

The M3-Incremental display is a last generation tool allowing to realize any dimensional control with 1 or 2 incremental sensors

This M3 allows to connect incremental sensors (Heidenhain type), as well as linear rules.

The M3 is equipped with a 4.3'' touch screen allowing a very clear visualization of the dimensions as well as a simplified configuration of the device. The touch screen is resistive, so it is possible to use it with gloves.

The M3 has different communication means (USB or RS232) allowing to transmit measurements to a PC and/or to control the display remotely.
Its case, machined in a solid aluminum block, offers to the M3 an unequalled robustness, even used in severe industrial environment (cutting oil etc...)

Features

  • 2 measurement configurations (2 dimensions)
  • Different display modes with 1 or 2 dimensions per screen, with or without tolerances.
  • Static and dynamic measurement (Min, Max, Max-Min, Average, Median)
  • Control limits
  • Sorting by classes (up to 16 classes)
  • Connection of an optional box with 8 optocoupled inputs/outputs (MB-IO)
  • Absolute or relative measurements
  • Modbus RTU or ASCII communication
  • USB keyboard function when the M3 is connected to a PC
  • Automatic change of measurement configuration by sensor movement.
  • Safe and easy to use

Compatibility

M3 displays are not only compatible with the entire Heidenhain's range of probes and scale(Certo, MT12, MT25, MT101, Specto...) but it offers a great flexibility and a wide panel of functions with a user friendly interface.

Functions

Many functions and operating modes can be defined:

  • Nominal dimension, tolerance limits, control limits, standard dimension (reference part).
  • Choice between 2 measurement configurations (2 dimensions)
  • Calculation formula (C1, C2, -C1, -C2, C1+C2, C1-C2, -C1+C2, -C1-C2, 3-point diameter)
  • Calibration
  • Direct or dynamic measurement (Min, Max, Max-Min, Average and Median)
  • Relative or absolute mode
  • Single or multi-range display mode (2 bar graphs) with or without tolerances
  • Sorting by classes, up to 16 classes
  • Locking of some functions with hiding of buttons for a simplified user interface
  • Display resolution (2 to 5 decimal places)
  • Metric (mm or µm) or inch measurements
  • M-Bus connector to connect a box with 8 optocoupled inputs/outputs (good part, bad part, calibration etc...)
  • Automatic dimension change by detection of sensor movements
  • Choice of language for the user interface

USB keyboard function

The M3 is equipped with a mini-USB connector with 2 functions
1. Power supply via a supplied wall transformer.
2. Measurement transmission: When the M3 is connected in USB to a PC, it is detected as a keyboard with the standard drivers of your operating system (Windows, MacOS, Linux...). When you transfer measurements from the M3, they appear on your computer screen as if they had been entered on the keyboard. No need to install any specific driver or software.

Advantages of this feature:

  • No risk of error when entering values
  • Saves time
  • Works everywhere on all software: Excel, SAP, Word....
  • No need for a driver, interface software or computer knowledge: you just plug in the display and you can work

Rear view

The M3 has 2 probe inputs, 1 RS232 connector, 1 USB connector for power and/or communication, 1 multifunction footswitch input, 1 M-Bus connector for I/O box and an On/Off switch.

OPTIONAL INPUT/OUTPUT MODULE

As an option, it is possible to connect an M-Bus box with 8 opto-coupler isolated inputs/outputs (ref Metro : MB-IO).
The outputs are equivalent to the " PNP open collector " type and can be used with an external DC power supply from 12 to 30 volts maximum.

Available functions:
- Part 1 or 2 good or bad
- Calibration
- Start of dynamic measurement
- Measurement transfer
- Zeroing
- Change of range
- Stop

Connection to a PLC

It is possible to connect the M3 to a PLC to create an automated sorting bench. This communication uses the MODBUS-RTU protocol

M3 - Display unit for Incremental probes

Diameter measurement in 3 points on a PMS table. By entering the "3 points diameter" mode on the M3, the diameter of the measurement keys will have to be filled in (as it is taken into account in the calculation formula) and 2 standards will have to be used for the calibration.

M3 - Display unit for Incremental probes

Measurement of very small watch parts. Here the M3 is connected with a Heidenhain SPECTO probe, mounted on a Sylvac PS15 measuring bench.

M3 - Display unit for Incremental probes

Retrofit of a small manual milling machine. Installation of 2 Heidenhain linear scales on the machine, connected to a M3 display with the double bargraph display mode, allowing to see both axis.

M3 - Display unit for Incremental probes

Internal diameter measurements on 2 different parts. Here the M3 displays only 1 characteristic. When the operator move a probe, the corresponding measurement appears on the screen. This functionnality allows to use only 1 display for 2 parts, and the operator has not to touch the display or change parameters for switching the part. A footswitch can be connect for preseting or to transfert the data to a computer.
